knot explores the internal tension we may feel when deciding how to use our precious free time.

For the past decade I’ve been buying things in thrift stores and flipping them on eBay and other sites. I have an excellent eye for quality clothing so it’s easy for me to do and I also get a kick out of selling the things I find. Sadly, it takes time away from the more challenging and ultimately more rewarding pursuit of making art. I was thinking about that while I made this drawing. The knot represents how I feel pulled in two different directions between the fun of thrifting and the work of making art. The rain and coins represent the money from my side hustle. The ghost of a white shirt that I bought for $19.99 and sold for $500 lurks in the background, as does a figure holding their hand on their head in frustration. This drawing is proof of the more valuable pursuit.
