Anxiety is such a funny thing. It seems so overwhelming but when you consider it objectively it can be quite silly. In this painting, the seven-headed Scylla has broken the thin strings that failed to hold it at bay and appears eager to wreak havoc. To avoid Scylla one must navigate Charybdis, which sounds threatening but in this case is just a ripple aside a small paper boat. Orange lines in the sky could be the Northern Lights, or a swiftly declining stock market. Chamomile flowers float down from the heavens. A blue whale represents the undercurrent of calm that’s there if you just stop and breathe.
